How we vet pros

Only Gelp Vetted pros receive jobs and appear on Gelp. Vetting isn't a one-off badge: pros are re-vetted every year and reviewed if their ratings drop or complaints are upheld.

Checks every pro passes

Identity
ID document checked in person or on a video call.
Criminal record check
Fingerprint-based check through an authorised screening provider. We only see the outcome, never the record.
References
Two recent customers or contractors are called.
Portfolio
At least five past jobs with photos.
Qualifications
Electricians are registered electrical contractors and plumbers are PIRB-registered. Handymen and painters pass an in-person check or trial job.

Insurance

Electricians and plumbers must hold public liability insurance of at least R2 million. Other pros show an Insured mark when they hold at least R1 million.

Public liability insurance covers accidental damage to your property or injury caused during the job. It does not cover the quality of the work.

For workmanship, some pros are members of trade associations with a guarantee, such as ECA(SA) for electricians. We show this on their profile.

Our commitment

Problem with a pro? We respond within one working day, and in a case of fraud we help you take it further.
