Guide on how to use PAIA

The Information Regulator publishes a guide explaining how to use PAIA and POPIA to request information. It is available on the Regulator's website (inforegulator.org.za) and from our Information Officer on request.

Records we hold

  • Company records: incorporation documents, Memorandum of Incorporation, share register, minutes.
  • Financial and tax records.
  • Customer records: job requests, consents, communications, outcomes and reviews.
  • Pro records: profiles, vetting outcomes, insurance and membership details, credit transactions and performance.
  • Agreements with partners and service providers.
  • Website and product analytics (pseudonymous).

We also keep records required by the Companies Act, the Tax Administration Act, the Value-Added Tax Act, POPIA and the Consumer Protection Act.

Records available without a request

Information published on our website, including how Gelp works, our vetting standard, our privacy notice and this manual.

Processing of personal information

The purposes of processing, the categories of people and information involved, who receives it, transfers outside South Africa and our security measures are described in our privacy notice.

How to request access

  1. Complete the prescribed request form (Form 2 under the PAIA Regulations), available on the Information Regulator's website or from us.
  2. Email it to our Information Officer at privacy@gelp.co.za, with proof of identity and, if you act for someone else, proof of your authority.
  3. We respond within 30 days. We may extend this once by up to 30 days and will tell you why.
  4. We may refuse access only on the grounds set out in PAIA. If you disagree with our decision, you may complain to the Information Regulator or apply to court.

Fees

Fees are those prescribed in the PAIA Regulations. There is no fee to request your own personal information. We will tell you about any fee before we process a request.
